Whether you perfer it topped with creamy butter and fruity jam or loaded with egg and crispy bacon we find it is the perfect side to our hearty breafasts.

Our brown bread is made by hand to a traditional Irish recipe. Not only does it taste great but it is full of wholegrain goodness.

Evergreen B&B Brown Bread Recipe

This recipe bakes in a loaf tin.

Ingredients:

225 g or 8oz of whole meal flour
225 g or 8oz of self raising flour
1 rounded teaspoon of baking powder
1 level teaspoon of bread soda
1 carton (125ml) of yogurt with hazelnuts
1 large egg
fresh milk - about 225ml (or 8 fl oz)

Cooking time:

About 50-60 minutes (190C, 375 F, Gas 5) reduce temperature to 180 after the 
first 15 minutes.

Put all the first 4 ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Put the 
yogurt, egg and the milk whisk together and add to the ingredients to make a 
soft dough. Add more milk if the mixture looks a bit dry. Grease loaf tin. 
Place the mixture into the tin and into a pre heated oven.
